‘You make the difference’ - Maggie’s Cheltenham thanks volunteers during Volunteer’s Week

DURING Volunteer’s Week (June 1-7, 2017) Maggie’s Cheltenham, the charity which provides free practical and emotional support for people with cancer, is saying a huge thank you to all the volunteers who give their precious time to Maggie’s every week of the year.

Volunteers at Maggie’s Cheltenham contribute towards the charity in many different ways, from welcoming visitors to the Centre and making cups of tea, to raising awareness and much needed funds in the local community; from cheering on participants at events, to helping in the garden to ensure it’s always a welcoming extension of the inside space.

Sally Hayes, Centre Head at Maggie’s Cheltenham said: “We have wonderful volunteers at Maggie’s Cheltenham and all of us want to say a huge thank you for your commitment and enthusiasm. The contribution you all make is so important, whether you’re out into the local community raising awareness of the support we offer to people living with cancer or if you are here in the Centre helping our professional staff by giving everyone a warm welcome and a much-needed cup of tea. You really do make the difference and we can’t thank you enough!”

To say thank you for all of their hard work, Maggie’s Cheltenham teamed up with Marks and Spencer to throw a thank you party for the volunteers on Monday, June 5, at the Maggie’s Centre.

Pauline Turfrey, Maggie’s Volunteer and Nordic Walking Instructor said: “It’s been truly wonderful event! We love what we do at Maggie’s and it’s really nice to have this sort of recognition. It’s also great to be able to meet fellow volunteers, some of whom I have not met until now! It feels like we’re part of a volunteer community.”

Maggie’s Cheltenham is always looking for more volunteers to support the Centre across its regular fundraising events and projects which always need ‘all hands on deck’ to make everything run smoothly.

By volunteering you can become a vital part of Maggie’s – and you can also add new skills or experiences to your CV.

If you would be interested in volunteering with Maggie’s Cheltenham we would like to invite you to our Volunteer Recruitment Evening at the Centre, 5pm, July 6, 2017.
