Cainscross WI with Lorna Gray, a local author, publisher and bookbinder

WE HAD a few apologies for our early June meeting from Val Dalby, Dot Brunning, Pam Elliott, Crystal Harrison, Sheila Shipton and Pam Clapp.

Pam’s apology was due to the fact she was representing us at the Meeting held at the Echo Arena, Liverpool.

Mary Jarrett was thanked for her table flowers in peach, yellow and mauve, which included yellow and cream alstromeria, peach roses and tradescantia.

After the business part of the meeting, including the minutes, financial update and correspondence had been dealt with, we discussed the details of our birthday party meeting which is planned for Tuesday, July 4.

This year we are away to Kingston with Dormston by coach with a supper to look forward to when we get there.

We then welcomed Lorna Gray, a local author, publisher and bookbinder.

Lorna demonstrated for us how she makes a bound notebook, which she covered in a pretty vintage cotton fabric and told us all about her career as an author.

At the moment she has had one novel published, has a second about to be published and is in the process of writing her third one.

We wish her every success in her endeavours.

The results of the monthly competition were as follows:-

First :- Tina Hewgill

Second:- Mary Jarrett

Third:- Margaret Adams

As usual, we ended with refreshments and the calling of the raffle.

As mentioned before, we will be away from St. Matthew’s for our early July meeting, but will be back at St. Matthew’s Church Hall on Tuesday, August 1, for a talk by Mike Cooper on ‘Olympic Volunteering’.

The monthly competition is for a poem about sport.

If you cannot make this evening, the next one will fall on Tuesday, September 5, when it is your chance to try a new craft - or two!

Visitors and new members are always welcome to join us at these meetings and there is always refreshments, a raffle and sales table to tempt you.
