Slimbridge Wetland Centre Receives Award for Outstanding Outdoor Learning

WWT Slimbridge are celebrating after receiving a Learning Outside the Classroom Quality Badge, a national award for centres providing an excellent standard of outdoor education sessions.

The Slimbridge Learning Team caters for pre-school through to tertiary years, as well as uniform groups and home educators, delivering a range of informative and engaging, curriculum-linked learning sessions.

In order to achieve the badge of approval, the centre was required to meet a number of quality indicators and commit to maintaining a high standard of effective learning experiences, outside where possible. The centre has proved its ability to evolve classes and programmes to meet learner needs and provide a safe environment for children and adults.

Sue Belej, WWT Slimbridge Learning Manager said: “We’re delighted to have received this award for our education provision. We pride ourselves on delivering hands-on discovery sessions covering habitat, species and conservation themes, both guided and self-guided for a wide range of ages and abilities. We look forward to welcoming more groups to Slimbridge under the LOTC Quality Badge.”

For schools with 30 per cent or more of pupils eligible for free school meals, the Slimbridge Learning Team are able to offer free visits to the centre with optional guided learning sessions and compulsory outdoor adventures.
