Woodchester WI: Papercraft activities with 'Crafty Kate'

FOR the members of Woodchester WI, June was not a month for just sitting back and enjoying the long, hazy days of summer!

Indeed, a busy month was enjoyed by all.

On June 10, Atcombe Court, Woodchester, opened its garden as part of the National Garden Scheme.

Whilst enjoying the beautiful gardens with its terraced borders and lovely views over the Woodchester Valley, visitors were served delicious cake and tea by Woodchester WI.

We thank the owners, John and Jo Peach, for giving us the opportunity to take part in this event.

Our monthly meeting was hosted by our very own ‘Crafty Kate’ whose ‘Make and Take’ evening involved us all in making a wide range of papercraft activities.

Whilst we all came to the evening with a variable range of skills (!), we all managed to go home with a number of finished projects, thanks to Kate’s careful preparation and support on the evening.

The following weekend two members joined a scenic walk at Winstone.

A four mile walk was completed in the company of other Gloucestershire WI Federation members.

Afterwards, they enjoyed a ploughman’s lunch with their fellow walkers.

The month’s activities concluded with an outing to historic Chavenage House.

Eighteen members enjoyed a tour of this delightful Cotswold Manor, currently probably better-known as ‘Trenwith’ in the popular ‘Poldark’ series.

We thank the Lowsley-Williams family for a fascinating tour; Woodchester WI can happily award Chavenage House’s Afternoon Tea their seal of approval – delicious!

In July we will spread our attention further afield, welcoming a new speaker who will tell us about about his year in China.

New members are always welcome; next meeting July 20, 7.30pm at Woodchester Village Hall, or email angela.j.pryor@gmail.com
