Cainscross WI: A visit to Kington and Dormston, Worcestershire

FOR our early July outing, we travelled by coach to Kington and Dormston, Worcestershire.

It was our 91st Birthday Party evening and we were very lucky to have a fine evening’s weather.

Our driver from KB Coaches was very pleasant and within about an hour we arrived at the village hall, which serves three parishes including that of Grafton Flyford.

The local WI ladies there did us proud with a starter plate of pate and crackers, followed by cold meats and hot potatoes with dishes of green, rice and coleslaw salads.

We then enjoyed choices of pavlova, trifle or fresh fruit salad for dessert and finished with tea or coffee.

There was plenty of food and the ladies were very friendly and welcoming.

After this we thought to ‘burn off a few calories’ by a short stroll round the village, including the churchyard and met a local householder with a beautiful house who was very happy to chat with us.

We then travelled home and all agreed it had been a lovely evening.

Some of us took some friends along for the trip and it was good to have their company for the evening.

We must thank President Doreen, and her husband Bryan, for doing a ‘recce’ of the venue for us and Doreen for also booking and arranging it all.

She always comes up with a great place for us to visit.

Next month, on Tuesday, August 1, we will be back home at St. Matthew’s Church Hall, Cainscross when we will welcome Mike Cooper and his tales of ‘Olympic Volunteering’.

The evening starts at 7.15pm and new members/visitors will be very welcome to join us.

The monthly competition is for ‘A poem on sport’.

There are always a raffle, refreshments and sales table on offer.
