Leonard Stanley WI's Annual Ploughman's Lunch

THE hall looked lovely, with tables laid out attractively ready for our annual Ploughman’s lunch, complete with fresh flowers on each table and so with an excellent lunch to look forward to, we kept business brief.

Birthday posies given to Monica, Mary Nash and Margaret Mathews as we do not hold a meeting in August.

Maureen reported that the visit to see the King and I at the Cotswold Playhouse had been much enjoyed, as well as the Cream Tea at the Whitminster Hotel.

She went through the Newsheet as usual, pointing out various items of interest, including the Glos Federation Weekend on April 6 – 8, 2018.

Jill stated a change in date for the usual croquet, bowls and tea in her garden and this would now be August 23.

£1 entry will go to Denman Appeal, and we hope to achieve our target of £200.

Our WI will host the Macmillan Coffee morning on September 30, 10am – 12noon in the village hall and this year, the bring and buy would be toiletries.

Maureen requested members to give something to the value of a £1, wrapped for the lucky dip.

On September 20, we have something to look forward to as Ann is organising a visit to the garden behind the Museum in Stratford Park.

She also advised the Bible Society’s coffee morning on July 29.

Members then enjoyed a mouth watering Ploughman’s lunch provided by the committee, including a diabetic choice together with wine and soft drinks.

Particular thanks to Mary and Brenda who did most of the preparations at home, also to Margaret for organising a quiz based on flowers which certainly made our brains work.

Pleased to hear that Leonard Stanley won the next stage of the WI quiz and are now in the finals.

There is no meeting in August and we start again on September 11, when we will enjoy playing board games.

Anyone interested in coming along or wishing to join the WI, please contact Chris the Secretary, on 01453 826510.
