Award-winning local cancer charity Hope for Tomorrow ‘Keeps the Wheels Turning' at fourth annual Chemotherapy in the Community Week
CELEBRATING its fourth annual campaign: ‘Chemotherapy in the Community Week' (CITC), Gloucestershire-based cancer charity Hope for Tomorrow will be out and about in local communities nationwide between October 9 and 15, raising awareness of its Mobile Chemotherapy Unit (MCU) Project via fundraising events and social media campaigning.
Hope for Tomorrow brings cancer care closer to patients' homes via its MCUs, operating in partnership with NHS Trusts around the country.
A wide range of different cancers is treated on board the MCUs, including breast, gynaecological, haematology, lung, brain, skin, and urology.
Chemotherapy in the Community Week offers people the chance to find out more about how they or their loved ones can be helped by the services offered on the MCUs.
Each year at CITC Week, patients, supporters and NHS medical teams throw themselves into helping to publicise the benefits these MCUs offer to cancer patients.
The MCUs drastically reduce the stress for cancer patients and their loved ones of driving long distances and enduring waiting times for chemotherapy treatment at main Oncology Centres.
Founder and Trustee Christine Mills, MBE, says: "Our theme for this year is ‘Keep the Wheels Turning'.
We are in our tenth year of operation and through CITC Week we educate people on our services, demonstrating that our MCUs can treat all types of cancer and offer treatments including blood transfusions, PICC line flushing, injections and oral chemotherapy.
Together with our NHS partners we want to show how much we care about the quality and individuality of chemotherapy treatment.
"Spreading the word about what we do is so important for the continued work of the charity. Fundraising and awareness events such as these help us enormously in our aim to bring cancer treatment closer to patients' homes."
Hope for Tomorrow has a total of eleven MCUs operational (in Gloucestershire, Somerset, South Wiltshire, Hampshire, East Kent, Lincolnshire, North Wiltshire, Cornwall, West Suffolk, East Essex, and Surrey/South London), and two reserve MCUs in place to ensure continuity of service during the maintenance schedule.
