Leonard Stanley Wine Circle: A day at the races
JULY is the month of the annual outing of Leonard Stanley Wine Circle and this year we did something totally different and visited Swindon Dog Racing.
We left the village hall by coach prompt on 5pm not knowing what to expect but thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.
We could watch the racing through the windows of the restaurant and on screens and although none of us were big spenders, we all enjoyed a small flutter and got very excited when some of us won!
It took a while to understand the betting system but by the end of the evening, most were getting to be quite experts when it came to placing bets.
During our time there, we also enjoyed a three course meal which gave good value for money.
Thanks to Eric and Dave who ably organised this unusual outing and we now look forward to meeting again on September 27, when Peter Berry, an old favourite, will talk on The Khyber Pass or Bust.
Visitors are always welcome – why not come along and join us for a meeting or phone the Secretary, Chris Phillips on 01453 826510 for further details.
