Randwick Gardening Club visits The Laskett Gardens and Longfield
ON THURSDAY, July 27, Randwick Gardening Club visited The Laskett Gardens, Much Birch, Herefordshire with an option of first spending time in Hereford or Pengethly Garden centre.
The Laskett Gardens are the creation of Sir Roy Strong CH and his late wife the designer Julia Trevelyan Oman.
Purchased in 1973 work began on the gardens the following year.
They include Topiary, Avenue Walks, a sundial from Sir Cecil Beaton's garden, a Temple, Monuments, Arch, Urn, Fountain, a Lion from the Houses of Parliament and a statue of Henry III from the old Palace of Westminster.
Various aspects of the gardens have been influenced by Operas, Ballets, Royalty and Shakespeare.
On Thursday, August 3, members paid a visit to Longfield at Burleigh.
We were given a conducted tour of the Hospice, which was very interesting and informative, followed by the garden.
Finally there were cream teas to die for.
The next meeting will be in the Randwick Village Hall, Tuesday, September 12, at 7.30pm when the subject will be "Beyond the Garden Gate" My Guide to Cotswold Gardens by Mrs M Bradshaw.
