James of Montpellier aims for a World record – All in the name of charity

RICHARD Dare will look sharper than his fellow athletes when he chases a world record at the Cheltenham Half Marathon on Sunday, October 1.

The father of three and owner of James of Montpellier menswear shop in Cheltenham will don a Roy Robson blue suit, waistcoat and tie in a bid to set a new world record for running a half marathon in business attire.

The record is held by Australian Michael Tozer with a time of one hour 18 minutes and 10 seconds.

Mr Dare said he was making the attempt to raise awareness of the incredible work Maggies in Cheltenham do in their provision of free practical, emotional and social support to people affected by cancer.

Having clocked up just two miles in the suit (and at nowhere near the pace required to break the record) and he states “it can safely be said there has been a very serious underestimation of just how hot, sweaty and difficult it is going to be”

“It is going to be tough but it’s nothing compared to the daily challenges faced by those with Cancer.”

Mr Dare goes on to explain that “the intense levels of sarcasm, mickey taking and general mockery offered up by my colleagues, friends and customers alike who all think I might have a little screw loose have also done nothing to improve my confidence.”
