Oakridge WI with speaker Celia Hargreaves

IN AUGUST several members took the chance to go to look over Woodchester Mansion following a very interesting talk earlier in the year.

Everyone enjoyed it thoroughly, and especially the delicious cake and tea which followed the tour.

We were very busy on the Preserves Stall at the Village Fete, and a nice profit was made to swell our coffers, as well as a good donation to the Village Fete's chosen charity.

Lovely to catch up on September 14, after what was supposedly the summer 'break'.

The business of the meeting was handled as always swiftly and skilfully by our President and Secretary. We are reminded that the Subscriptions for the coming year will be £41, due in January.

Harvest Supper will be on October 7.

With a choice of beef casserole or a veggie alternative.

Johnnie Coppin will be coming to The Village Hall tickets from Sue Korda, look for posters in the Hall and Village Shop.

We were delighted to welcome our speaker, Celia Hargreaves who told us about her work as a Justice of the Peace.

Celia started by a brief history of the JPs.

Celia has been serving on the Bench for 20 years, and she told us all about the training necessary to do this very important job, why only the Chairperson is allowed to speak in the Court, and why there are always three on the bench.

This was an enthralling talk, with our members asking several questions.

Celia was warmly thanked by Vida.

Dates for your diary.

The next meeting in the village hall will be on October 12, with Rachel Shilston entitled Mosiac Madness, Workshop.

That sounds intriguing!

November 9 will be the Annual Meeting.

We shall also welcome a Firefighter talking on Home Safety.

Visitors are always very warmly welcomed, do please come along if any of our talks appeal to you.
