Say ‘Hi’ to the new recruits in Year 3!
SPIKE and Candy are two Giant Orange Ringed Madagascan Millipedes.
They are easy to look after, very easy to ‘exercise’ …. and absolutely fascinating to watch.
The pupils have been thrilled to feel the millipedes many little legs brush gently over their fingers – no one squeamish here.
Mrs Jo Preece, Head of Year 3, says ‘Bringing ‘exotic’ little creatures into a classroom gives the pupils a wonderful insight into the natural world and does so much to excite their curiosity. It also helps children to learn how to take care of other animals – and spending just a few minutes watching the millipedes move slowly and calmly around the tank does wonders to sooth a frazzled temper’.
And with any luck there might be some little millebabies on the horizon… watch this space!
