Stroud Gardening Club Open Garden evening

STROUD Gardening Club do not hold summer meetings, but our Open Garden evening on mid-summers day at Tony and Mavis Wyatt's garden was a well attended event, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all who came.

It was a beautiful, hot evening, and everyone was able to sit in the garden and socialise with other members and guests, and enjoy the refreshments supplied by Tony and Mavis.

Many thanks to Tony and Mavis for their hospitality.

July 15 saw the Garden Club members supporting the Stroud Country Show, with exhibits in the various classes in the Horticultural Tent, and helping with the success of the Stroud Gardening Club Plant Stall.

This was ably manned during the course of the Show by Jan Davis, Sharon Pellatt, Marianne Child, Gillian Jobbins and Jackie Taylor, and thanks to all who donated plants for sale, as the proceeds help to boost the funds of the Club.

We, as a Club, do hope that the Stroud Country Show continues to take place for the people of Stroud.

There are no events for the Gardening Club in August, and September saw the second trip of the current year to Blenheim Palace, birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill.

This was well attended and we had a beautiful day which was just perfect - not too hot and yet it was dry.

Visitors had the opportunity to have guided tours around the Palace, including the Churchill Exhibition, and the Park and Gardens were absolutely stunning, with walks laid out and mapped for people to enjoy.

Buggy tours were available for those less able to do the walking, so everyone was well catered for.

The whole experience was fantastic and everyone said that they had really enjoyed a lovely day.

Our next meeting will be held in the Bedford Street Congregational Church Rooms at 7.30pm on October 18, when our speaker will be Jon Mason from Highfield Garden World, and the subject is Pruning of Fruit Trees.

This is a timely topic, and all members are welcome, and we also invite visitors to our meetings.

Refreshments always served at each meeting.
