SGS College opens its doors to older learners
SOUTH Gloucestershire and Stroud College (SGS) is once again opening its doors to retirees and the over fifties in its award winning Refresh 2 Impress programme.
The free, three day course runs throughout the year and starts on October 23 and 25, at the College’s WISE and Stroud campuses respectively.
Based around a basic maths qualification, the course offers a safe, caring, fun and interactive learning environment and includes a variety of practical taster sessions, such as yoga, art, first aid and mindfulness to broaden the learners’ experiences and motivate them to further learning.
Having recently been named Project of the Year at the 2017 Festival of Learning Awards, the team behind Refresh 2 Impress are looking forward to welcoming new learners. Sarah Kopera, who heads up the team said: “We were delighted to win the award and can’t wait to get started with the new term’s courses.”
The excitement was echoed by one of the programmes long-time learners, Alfreda, 86: “I would tell anyone, go and learn something, it’s brilliant. I kept discovering things; I’m 86 and I’m like a new kid! I loved it, absolutely loved it!”
David Drew, MP for Stroud praised the course for its role in the community: “Refresh 2 Impress has done so much good for the community and for adult learners in the area.”
