Amberley Guild Society weekend away

The Amberley Guild Golf Society made a second visit to Whitefields Golf Club near Rugby last weekend and enjoyed a warm and dry three days’ golf.

The format for the weekend was a Stableford competition on the Friday, a Medal competition on the Saturday and a Pairs Better-Ball on the Sunday.

The Friday competition was won by Martin Butt with 33 points with Dave Bolland second with 31 points on countback from Lee Davis.

Ryan Gannaway and Mike Sansom were fourth and fifth respectively with 29 points.

Mike Pobjoy won the ‘nearest the pin in 2’ competition, but no-one managed to hit the green on the nominated par 3.

No birdie 2s were recorded.

Being a little more familiar with the course everyone started with high hopes for Saturday’s medal competition. Bob Maltby won the cup for Best Nett, with a very creditable score of 68, well ahead of Mike Pobjoy, Richard Colbrough and Ken Kirby. Martin Butt won the cup for Best Gross (78) ahead of Mark Anderson, Ryan Gannaway and Ben Denley.

Harry Lewis won the ‘nearest the pin in 2’ competition‘ and ‘nearest the pin’ on the nominated par 3 was Bob Maltby.

Birdie 2’s were registered by Martin Butt, Mike Pobjoy, Matt Court, Martin Bourne and Clive Hathaway.

Greater familiarity with the course and a glorious sunny morning produced some good scores in the Pairs Better-Ball competition.

Lee Davis and Eddie Uzzell led the way home with 41 points, ahead of Martin Butt and Ray Stratford with 39 on countback from Angel Ancona and Martin Bourne. Ben Denley and Harry Lewis completed the winners list with 38 points.

Martin Butt won the ‘nearest the pin in 2’ competition.

Eddie Uzzell was ‘nearest the pin’ on the nominated par 3 and completed a fine weekend by recording the only birdie 2 of the day.

After a late Sunday lunch prizes were distributed.

Martin Butt won ‘personality of the weekend’ with little competition!

Thanks were again expressed to Mike Sansom, Ray Stratford and Graham Hook for all their hard work in organising this, the 37th weekend, which again was a most successful one.
