Cainscross WI with speakers Diana & Fred (aka Whisper & Shout)

MOST members were back for our October meeting, but apologies were given by Pam Clapp and Kate Parrott.

However there were a couple of visitors in attendance which was great.

Linda Foreman’s table flowers were very ‘pretty in pink’ including some lovely pale pink roses coupled with begonia.

After the signing of the Minutes of last meeting, the Treasurer’s update and some discussion of the correspondence received, we moved on to the social part of the evening.

For this, we welcomed Diana & Fred (aka Whisper & Shout) with a good collection of the puppets in their possession.

These included some very tiny finger puppets to a couple of quite large models from a large range of countries.

One of my own favourites was a sweet little Mexican puppet complete with his own sombrero.

Diana and Fred also brought along their slideshow of Puppetry displays with some enormous puppets operated by about half a dozen puppeteers each moving a different part of the puppet.

I had never seen puppets of that size before.

They were good clear speakers and it made for a very pleasant evening.

After the refreshment break, we finished with the calling of the raffle and the monthly competition winners announced as:-

First - Mandy Sutton

Second - Mary Jarrett

Third - Tina Hewgill

Our next meeting, which will take place as usual in St Matthew’s Church Hall, Cainscross, on Tuesday, November, 7, starting at 7.15pm will feature a change to the printed programme when we will welcome Mr John Peters and his talk entitled ‘A boy in Tetbury from 1900 -1950’ which should be very interesting.

The monthly competition will be for ‘A picture of Autumn’.

Visitors/new members would be most welcome to join us and there is always a raffle, refreshments and sales table on offer.

The Christmas Party Social Evening will fall this year on Tuesday, December 5, and booking is needed for this event.

More details if needed from 01453 762812.
