Stroud Valleys Music Club with Angela Applegate from the Holst Museum in Cheltenham
WE ENJOYED a most interesting presentation from Angela Applegate from the Holst Museum in Cheltenham.
She showed us a variety of old photos illustrating Gustav Holst’s life, whilst colouring them with a series of anecdotes and details that brought this great local composer to life.
There was further colour when we heard pieces of Holst’s music from throughout his musical career.
We learned also that Holst was an inveterate walker, particularly in the Cotswolds, and he inspired the Gustav Holst Way which runs from Cranham to Wyck Rissington.
