Cainscross WI with Sue Dodds and a slideshow and talk on ‘The Pyrenees in June’

WE MET in early February and it was good to welcome most members back.

We did receive apologies from Dot Brunning so we hope to see her again soon.

Mary Jarrett was thanked for her table flowers of a pretty deep pink moth orchid in a basket container.

After the Minutes and Treasurer’s Report, we discussed some correspondence, including the Annual Council Meeting, which is due to take place in March and a New Speakers Taster Morning.

Some of our members will be going to the Council Meeting so we will hear all about it later.

We then discussed some preparations for the Weavers Group Meeting which is due to take place in early April.

We are hosts for this meeting which will be held at St Matthew’s Church Hall, Cainscross.

We then welcomed Sue Dodds of the two Sue’s with her lovely slideshow and talk on ‘The Pyrenees in June’.

The two Sues visited the Pyrenees a few years ago now and arrived in early June to some pretty chilly and snowy weather.

They despaired of being able to photograph the lovely butterflies and plants they had hoped too.

However, within a few days, the sun came out and they were able to spot some lovely butterflies, including Apollo, marbled white and the blue Mazerine, along with some beautiful plants such as violas and asphodel.

It was lovely to see some bright, sunny pictures in early February which really cheered us up.

Sue was a delightful guest with a good clear speaking voice and had some excellent slides.

We ended with refreshments, the calling of the raffle and the announcement of the monthly competition winners:-

First - Mary Jarrett

Second - Margaret Adams

Our next meeting will fall on Tuesday, March 6, again to take place at St Matthew’s Church, Cainscross at 7.15pm when we hope to welcome David Cramp with his talk on ‘Swallows, Swifts and Martins’.

The competition will be for a picture or model of a bird.

Then on Tuesday, April 3, it is Members’ night, when we will hold a Cheese & Wine Evening with a quiz or two to test our memories!

For more details on any of the above, please contact 01453 762812.

We would love to see new members or visitors at one of our meetings and we always have refreshments, a raffle and sales table on offer.
