ST MATTHEW’S Indoor Rowing team took the South of England Indoor Rowing Championships by storm, taking first place and the Victor Ludorum trophy!

The triumphant team of 45 children, all trained by St Matthew’s Primary, were drawn from six local primary and four secondary schools.

The children’s skills and commitment proved too formidable for the 24 competitor schools and rowing clubs, allowing them to proudly return with eight gold, five silver and eight bronze medals.

Notable successes included Lorelei Weir who took gold in the WJ10 two minute race, with a new event record distance of 455m.

Not satisfied with this triumph, she then led her team to another event record gold medal in the WJ10 1,000m relay!

Other golds included Year 6 pupil Lily Anderson from Whiteshill Primary in the WJ11 category, Ella-Mae Ahmad, from Stroud High, who won for the second year running taking the WJ12 race and Marley Weir, who set a challenge to his sister by taking gold in the first race of the day in the J9 category, despite being a year younger than his competitors!

The team dominated the relay races, winning medals in every race entered, including golds in the Year 4 Boys 1,000m, Year 5 Boys and Girls 1,000m relays and the Year 8 Girls 2,000m.
