Nailsworth & District Flower Arrangement Society's AGM with demonstration by National Demonstrator Jayne Morris

OUR meeting on March 7, was the Club's AGM.

Unfortunately our President Jo Mason was unwell but Linda Foreman our Chair ably stood in for her.

Linda announced that in the absence of anyone coming forward she would continue for a further year in office.

She introduced Alice Burr as her deputy and made a request to the floor for anyone wishing to fill a vacancy on the Committee.

Current members of the committee were thanked for their hard work and were voted in, to continue in their various roles.

The evening continued with a wonderful demonstration by our member and National Demonstrator Jayne Morris.

Jayne’s title for her demonstration was “Aspects of Chelsea” in which she gave a broad picture of Chelsea and her knowledge of its many attractions and her love of competing in the ever popular Chelsea Flower Show.

Her first design was a pedestal arrangement of white lizianthus, blue iris, and blue hyacinths depicting water as in the River Thames.

She complimented this with a further arrangement in a boat shaped container.

An arrangement of trailing ivy, euonymus, variegated box, with white spray carnations, double pink lizianthus, white roses and dark pink carnations arranged in a handbag type container depicted “Shopping on the Kings Road”.

The Chelsea Pensioners were her theme for a third arrangement.

This was a simple but effective design of formium leaves, red cornus stalks red roses orange/red alstroemeria.

For a fourth arrangement Jayne expressed her love of Chelsea Show Gardens with a stunning design using a double placement with spring flowers, tulips, purple lizianthus, pink hyacinths, heather from her garden, and pink mini gerberas in a rectangular wicker basket.

For her final design Jayne used Twisted Hazel twigs fatsia leaves, with some large yellow gerberas, gold roses and beautiful white lilies which she arranged in a large urn to depict the beautiful flowers she has admired in Sloane Square.

We were pleased and proud that Jayne had chosen our Club to do her final NAFAS demonstration and hope that she will continue to support our club with her wealth of talent and experience.

Tickets are on sale for our Open Day at Wycliffe until March 18.

Final numbers are necessary for catering.
