Leonard Stanley WI with wild life photographer Philip Mugridge

ON A dull, wet afternoon it was a treat to gather in the village hall and enjoy a presentation by Philip Mugridge, a skilled wild life photographer from the Forest of Dean.

He started his show in the Wildlife and Wetlands Trust at Slimbridge where we saw a wide range of ducks, geese and swans arriving, feeding, preening and courting.

We then moved to the Severn Bridge for shots of owls, and to a spot in the north Cotswolds for wonderful shots of little owls feeding.

Then we saw a good selection of butterflies.

Finally we went to the Forest of Dean for a real reminder that spring is on its way, despite appearances to the contrary.

Our members were very happy to hear that the Lent Lunch we had hosted had made a profit of £268 which had been sent to the Willow Trust, and so will help to provide a lovely day out on the canal for someone who really needs a break.

We were reminded of the need to keep knitting lots of poppies for the commemoration of the end of the First Word War in November.

Our next meeting will be on Monday, April 9, at 2.15pm in the village hall when we shall have a talk about Assistance Dogs.

Our speakers will be bringing at least one of these remarkable animals with them.

Visitors are very welcome.
