ON MARCH 8, Thomas Keble School Year 10 GCSE Citizenship class had a fabulous day in London at the key centres for legal and political life in the UK.

We were lucky enough to be granted rare authorisation to take the pupils along Downing Street to stand by the iconic door to No. 10.

Pupils then headed for the Supreme Court, the highest court on UK soil, and sat in the chamber before session began for the day.

A whistle-stop tour of the Houses of Parliament followed with a quick look at the workings of both Houses and a talk from David Drew MP on the importance of the Palace of Westminster.

After a scenic walk along the River Thames, taking in New Scotland Yard and the Inns of Court, pupils were able to watch a brief section of a court case in the Old Bailey, also known as the Central Criminal Court of London.

Cases here are of the most serious nature and the pupils should be credited with the maturity they demonstrated and the interest they showed in the workings of the justice system.

A long but varied day which we will talk about for the rest of our two-year GCSE course.

My thanks go to everyone involved in making this a successful visit.
