Nailsworth and District Flower Arrangement Society raise £1,000 for Macmillan

OVER 200 members, friends, and visitors from other Flower Clubs attended this memorable bi-annual Open Day on Wednesday March 28, 2018, at Wycliffe College Stonehouse.

Tea/coffees were served and raffle tickets bought before the day began with an inspiring talk by Katherine Kear, British Master Florist, MDPF, SFI, FRSA, LRPS, National Speaker and BBC Radio Gloucestershire Folklorist.

She is the author of “Flower Wisdom” an illustrated guide to, myths, magic and healing powers of our best- known flowers.

Katherine was part of the team that won a gold medal at Chelsea Flower Show 2016 for 3 Counties & South Wales Area of NAFAS.

Katherine is Chairman of our Area of NAFAS.

Katherine opened the day with her presentation “Colour Talk”.

This was a fascinating talk giving examples of ways in which colours of the rainbow come into our daily lives.

She reminded the audience that the oldest flower, a rose gives us the greatest number of colours.

Jenny Goddard from Macmillan Cancer Support then gave an informative presentation about the changing role of the work now being carried out by the charity which we are supporting this year.

A delicious lunch was served by staff at the college and guests were invited to peruse the sales table and stalls selling cakes, jewellery, and plants.

Our theme for the day continued with a spectacular display of colour created for us by the famous Johnathan Moseley, a popular National Demonstrator who also appears on the BBC Allotments programme.

Johnathan demonstrated his great talent making many wonderful designs using hellebores, roses, carnations, tulips, orchids, gerberas and strelitzias, he also made a simple hand tied posy of spring flowers.

When he had finished the stage was filled with a myriad of colours.

A wonderful interpretation of his theme “Colour my World”.

A vote of thanks was given by our President Jo Mason, the raffle was drawn, and delighted members of the audience left after an inspiring day, staggering under the weight of their greatly coveted and proudly won flower arrangements.
