Upton St Leonards WI with speaker Chris O'Grady
PRESIDENT Lynne welcomed us to our April meeting and introduced two visitors, Jan and Wendy.
Our group rally takes place on Friday, April 20, at Witcombe Village Hall where the talk will be on wedding dresses from the 1920s to 1950s.
On May 23, we are taking a trip to the Concorde Museum at Filton, leaving Upton Village Hall at 9.30am.
A report on the Annual Council Meeting was read.
Our speaker was Chris O'Grady who gave a talk on his walk from Pershore to Rome, as the hymn goes “To be a Pilgrim”.
Celebrating his 50th birthday Chris set out from Pershore to Rome, 1,200 miles, for 14 nights, carrying a small tent, four pairs of underpants, one pair of boots and a pair of walking poles with no accommodation booked.
Chris gave thanks to the kindness of strangers and friends who put their trust in him and forged new friendships for the future.
A warm round of applause followed before Marlene gave a vote of thanks.
We meet again on Bank Holiday Monday, May 7, at 7.30pm in Upton Village Hall for a Quiz night and WI resolutions.
