Nailsworth & District Flower Arrangement Society

ELIZABETH Gordon a farmer’s daughter and NAFAS Area demonstrator from Wales took the stage for our June meeting.

Elizabeth won a Silver Gilt award at Chelsea this year for her arrangement entitled “Spirit of the season”.

Our competition for the evening “Picnic in the Park” was won by Elaine Bushby who was presented with the Jubilee Cup.

Rose Grant and Mary Oakey came a close second and third.

Elizabeth’s title for this evening was “Sticks and Stems”.

For her first arrangement she created a simple but effective arrangement of dried sticks with engineered aspidistra leaves and some beautiful pink orchids.

Her second design using purple lizianthus delphiniums, agapanthus, tulips, pink avalanche roses and sweet- williams was reminiscent of a garden border.

A home-made willow circular basket containing beautiful formium and fatsia leaves donated by a member of the committee, offset with orange lilys and roses, green carnations, and tulips, was a stunning third arrangement.

Elizabeth used a terracotta pot containing sculptured foliage, palm leaves sun flowers golden rod and some beautiful alstroemeria for a fourth arrangement.

Her fifth and final arrangement was a vertical and horizontal design of antirrhinums peonies, pink avalanche roses and orchids.

Throughout her demonstration Elizabeth gave members the benefit of her extensive knowledge and experience of flower arranging, filling the stage with a myriad of colour and wonderful designs.

A truly memorable evening.

Our next meeting is on Wednesday, July 4 at 7.30pm.

In Nailsworth Town Hall when Marie Munday (Area) will be demonstrating “Let’s go to the movies”.
