Nailsworth & District Flower Arrangement Society

OUR July meeting was well attended in spite of the heat.

The competition appropriately titled “All on a Summer’s day” was won by Elaine Bushby who received the ’candelabra’ for her arrangement.

Second was Mary Oakey.

Marie Munday area demonstrator and Gold Medal winner at the Malvern Spring Show then took the stage with “Let’s go to the movies part 2”.

For her first arrangement Marie used a pale blue container in which she placed conifer, prunus, fatsia and bay leaves with white avalanche roses, blue iris and some eryngium to represent the popular children’s film ‘Frozen’.

“The Wizard of Oz” was her second choice.

An all green arrangement of a variety of foliage with carnations and Lizianthus in a cleverly constructed home-made castle which was likened to “The Emerald City.”

Marie used a stunning piece of driftwood on which she arranged formium, fatsia, and spotted laurel with vibrant red gladioli protea orange gerberas and carnations which represented a desert sunset as in the film “The Magnificent Seven”.

For her fourth design Marie used a large cocktail glass in which she placed phoenix palms, antirrhinums cala lilies, peach coloured Lizianthus, red gerberas and some pink spray roses, representing “The Great Gatsby”.

“Grease” was her choice of film to demonstrate her love of the musicals in an arrangement of conifer, astilbe, Lizianthus, hypericum, and rosemary.

Marie used a heart shaped wicker work container with a variety of different foliage off-set with some lovely red roses and gerberas for her finale.

Our next meeting is on August 1, when Sally Taylor (Area) will be taking the stage with her demonstration entitled “Sallying Forth Again”.

Visitors and new members are always welcome.
