Eastcombe WI with Professor Collywobbles
OUR President, Claire, welcomed everyone to the meeting on yet another glorious summer’s evening!
Business matters were despatched.
Appreciation was noted for the Group Meeting arranged in the Garden Room at The Museum in the Park by Brimscombe and Thrupp WI.
Following the various reports and refreshments, attendees were treated to uplifting choral renditions from the local Rock Choir in the beautiful grounds and sunshine.
Thanks to generous Institute Members, friends and families, Member participants in the Race for Life at Gloucester had raised £330 for Cancer Research UK.
The June Fund Raising Afternoon Tea raised £215.
This month’s visiting speaker was Phillip Collins, otherwise known as Professor Collywobbles, and his subject was Punch & Judy.
We were tested and enlightened on points of history over the 350 years of Punch & Judy from the mid 1600s.
Finally, we were treated to an Institute specific show.
There was not a straight face in the room – and all of this ably supported by our very own Beryl, well known for turning her hand to anything and everything.
This time wearing a fez, beating a tambourine, blowing a penny whistle - and collecting pennies for the show – all at the same time!
