ONE of the benefits of belonging to a club – and I'm sure I've said this before – is that it has a certain amount of pulling power, dependent of course upon the charms, persuasiveness, inspiration and tenacity of the programme secretary.

I AM BLOWING on my hands as I sit here in my study but I shall be outside later once it has warmed up a little.
There has been some beautiful weather over the last few days with crisp blue skies and even crisper frosty nights.

BILL Mortimore, a member, was the speaker at the latest Probus meeting, and his humorous talk was like an episode out of the old television programme, All Creatures Great and Small. Having just retired and considering what to do next, his wife persuaded him to accept a kid which had been born to a friend's goat. He agreed, but in no time at all the kid became fully grown, and was now too big for the garden.

ON FRIDAY, January 22, 2010 in the Lower School Room at Rodborough Tabernacle United Reformed Church a Burns Night quiz took place.
THE speaker for the evening was David Lemon with his subject Never Too Old for Adventures. On the back of the three books he has written, David described himself as an Author, Journalist, Public speaker and Adventurer and the first part of his talk was taken up with exploring the definition of the words adventures and adventurers. A dictionary definition of adventure is an occasion ‘unusual and exciting’, or ‘a risky undertaking’.

THE programme promised a talk entitled My Life Inside, and members might have been pardoned for expecting a tattooed old lag to reminisce about his life of crime. Not a bit of it – instead Helen told us about her work as a volunteer tutor in Bristol prison.
