Woodchester Mansion has extended its open days for the public this year. From now until October 31 they are open Tuesday to Sunday inclusive from 11am until 4pm. As a result more volunteers are needed for shop and ticket sales, the tea room and as minibus drivers and tour guides. A recruitment evening for new volunteers is being held from 6.30pm to 8.30pm on Tuesday, July 29. There will be a minibus service from the NT car park in Woodchester Park, tours of the Mansion, refreshments and the chance to chat to our existing volunteers to find out what volunteering at the Mansion is like. The Weaving Shed at Gigg Mill, Nailsworth, will be open from 10am to noon on Saturday, August 2. Visitors can try their hands at weaving a pattern as well as seeing demonstrations of the flying shuttle and a power loom. £3 for adults. In addition, the Mill Centre at Dunkirk Mill will be open 2pm to 4pm on Saturday,August 2 and Sunday, August 3, with demonstrations of Victorian textile machinery, some driven by a large water wheel. See how the finish on a fine Stroud scarlet cloth was produced. £3 for adults.

Summer dancing dates - come along and join Jim and Nicky in some fun and lively dance classes during the summer on a Thursday evening at the Comrades Club. Dances include Lindy Hop, Jive and Charleston and Jitterbug Stroll for which you don’t need a partner. Especially calling all you guys who have been too shy to strut your stuff. Want to learn to dance like the professionals? Steve Holmes school of dancing is currently running ballroom classes at the Comrades Club. Steve has been teaching for over 30 years and the writer can speak from experience as to his commitment to his craft – beginners 7.15pm until 8.15pm. Improvers from 8.15pm until 9.15pm. The weekly Saturday family walk now starts at 6.30pm at the Comrades Club on Tuesday until further notice. It lasts approximately two hours. £3 each to include a drink and a cheese supper upon return. Call Mike Harvey on 01453 832739 – everyone welcome.

Walking for Health ticks all the boxes; physical, mental and social. These led walks take place in Nailsworth at 2pm each Tuesday departing from the library. Everyone is welcome; you may even like to consider training as a walk leader to help this ever growing group of folk expand their repertoire. Nailsworth Recreation Centre in Nympsfield Road has three new classes starting soon. Ashtanga (Power) Yoga on Wednesday evenings.
