WYCLIFFE College pupils are celebrating another fine set of A-level results – with A*s or As making up a third of all grades.

As the national picture of variable performance and dropped grades filters through it is clear that Wycliffe pupils have held their own with some outstanding performances.

Among those celebrating was aspiring vet Ben Capehorn, 17, from Hawkesbury Upton,

who was thrilled to have gained a place at the University of Surrey.

Ben’s A in physics, B in biology and B in chemistry was more than enough to secure his place in September studying veterinary medicine.

“Since joining Wycliffe 14 years ago the entire school has been very supportive of me in my goal to study veterinary medicine,” said Ben.

“ I can't thank the staff enough, and I am delighted that all of our hard work has paid off.”

Deputy head of school Carrii Elliott, 18, from Berkeley was also celebrating as she secured the grades needed to begin her career in engineering.

Carrii’s A* in chemistry, A in maths and A in physics was more than enough to secure her place at Imperial College London to study chemistry.

According to Carrii her A-level success was a result of locking herself in the library and not speaking to anyone in the weeks leading up to her exams.

This year’s top performers were Rusty Wong and Sasha Tsoy who both received two A*s and an A while Fergus Menendez, 18, from King’s Stanley achieved four A grades

Rusty will now be heading off to University College London to study biochemistry and Sasha will be starting at Goldsmith’s, London to read media.

Head Margie Burnet Ward said: “In such a difficult year for results nationally, these are a testament to the hard work and dedication of our pupils and staff.

“As well as a very full extra-curricular life at Wycliffe and outstanding pastoral care producing very contented students, it is great to see academic levels so high too.”
