TEARS of joy flowed at Stroud High sixth form after record breaking results were revealed.

Outstanding results were achieved - nearly a fifth of all students achieved an A* with 50 per cent of grades at either A* or A, meaning the overall percentage of girls gaining A* to B grades was 81 per cent.

Ecstatic Frances Hawker, 18, achieved three A* grades - in maths, biology and chemistry - and is off to study natural sciences at Cambridge.

“I am so happy and relieved,” she said.

The impressive results have ensured that the vast majority of girls gained their first choice university place.

Headteacher Mark McShane said: “There are many stories of personal success to celebrate and I am delighted that so many girls will be leaving fully prepared for the next stage of their education.

“We focus on enabling girls to achieve their personal best and it is pleasing to see that 99 per cent of A-level entries were passed.”
