KNITTERS joined forces to string together T-shirt shaped bunting lining the streets of Stroud to celebrate the Tour of Britain.

Gloucestershire Rural Community Council’s In Touch project celebrated the Tour of Britain coming through the Stroud District on Wednesday, September 10.

Numerous clubs and individuals’ knitted T-Shirt bunting for the route with over 1000 hand knitted t-shirts displayed, welcoming the Tour as it passed through the Stroud area.

The knitted T-shirts represented the cycling shirts of the Tour through Stroud, Nailsworth, Wotton and Painswick connecting the event with Stroud’s wool heritage.

In Touch has been running for 12 years and is a countywide project that is funded by Gloucestershire County Council and managed and delivered by GRCC.

It has a vast history of intergenerational work and specialist projects that support older people across the county. The eldest knitter was Muriel Craig who is soon to turn 102 years.

The event was a great day to see not only the cycling, but the fantastic community effort to decorate the streets in celebration.
