AFTER years of requesting better parking in Stroud town centre the district council has almost finished work to bring 32 extra spaces to the town.

Traders and shoppers are delighted with the move from Stroud District Council, which will see the car park in Church Street increase from 77 spaces to 107.

SDC bought the land from the county council for £120,000 and has spent £72,000 on the project which includes improvements to the existing car park, re-lining, and replacement of the wrought iron fence opposite the church yard with wooden bollards.

It also includes new signs and a new ticket machine for the extended area.

The car park is expected to be ready by Friday, October 10.
