STRATFORD Park Leisure Centre, Stroud, is set to stage a week of special activities to mark the 40th anniversary of its opening.

Taster sessions will be on offer from Monday June 1 in sports such as trampolining, martial arts, gymnastics and roller skating, before the highlight of the anniversary celebrations concludes on Saturday June 6 with a celebratory fete.

Dan Coleman, general manager for Stratford Park Leisure Centre, said: "This is a big birthday for the leisure centre and we’re very excited for the fun events being held to celebrate its achievement.

"The centre is an important part of Stroud and it has come a long way since its opening. It provides a place for the local community to engage in a wide range of sports, fitness and children’s activities.

"We’re extremely proud of the centre and we hope lots of people will join us for the festivities."

Countryfile TV presenter Ellie Harrison will arrive as guest of honour at 1pm to kick-off the fete, with all proceeds going towards Stroud District Foodbank, the Anthony Nolan charity and Cots For Tots.

Fitness Manager Samantha Laurie said: "We now have 22 stalls confirmed which include face painting, glitter tattoos, smoothie bike, tombola, raffle and many more.

"We also have an assortment of bouncy castles available for all age groups."
