A MINECRAFT design created by a primary school pupil has won the junior section of a consultation competition at Market House in Minchinhampton.

The competition was part of a consultation process organised by Market Hall’s Management Committee in order to ask the people of Minchinhampton for their opinions about ideas to make better use of the historic building.

Seven-year-old Aidan Lynch created a short film which used the video game Minecraft to re-create the 400-year-old building, to show what it would look like if the undercroft beneath the main hall was used to house sheep, horses and cattle.

Chair of the Management Committee Janet Payne awarded Aiden his wining prize at an award ceremony at the historic hall on Friday May 22.

Along with winning a £15 voucher to spend at the Yellow Lighted Bookshop in Nailsworth, Aiden's short film was shown to a full house before the main feature at the Market House's regular film night.

The main winner of the adults section was Sarah Boyce, who won a free afternoon's hire of the hall.

Helen Rogers and Karen Colebourn each won a copy of J. K. Rowling's book 'The Casual Vacancy', signed by members of the cast who filmed scenes for the recent TV adaptation in the Market House and other parts of Minchinhampton.

The Management Committee at Market House hopes to re-establish the historic Grade II listed building as the town’s social, cultural and architectural centrepiece.

Janet Payne, chair of the Committee said: "We are delighted with the number of questionnaires that have been sent in and it is clear that the people of Minchinhampton are passionate about their Market House.

“We received over 200 completed questionnaires, which was a great response “Once we have read and considered everyone's views, we will hold a further public meeting in the Autumn to discuss the ideas in more detail."
