PRIMARY schools in Stroud had the chance to learn phrases in French, German, Spanish and Latin at a languages taster day.
About 180 year five and year six children took part in the introductory language sessions which were hosted by Marling School as part of the Cotswold Edge Teaching Alliance.
The focus of the programme is to develop the teaching of languages at primary school and aid transition to secondary school.
All of the sessions on Monday, June 29 were planned and delivered by year 10 and year 12 students from Marling School and Stroud High School allowing them to experience teaching and consider it as a future career.
Topics included learning parts of the body in Spanish, using Euros to buy food in a French supermarket, doing a quiz on German culture and learning about gladiators for Latin.
Headteacher Dr Stuart Wilson said: “The event gave primary students a taste of different languages, gave our teaching colleagues some ideas to take back to their own classrooms, and allowed our own students to experience being a teacher for the day.”
Due to popular demand, the day will run again on Tuesday, July 7 for another 100 children from the area.
