A 25-YEAR-OLD motorcyclist from Quedgeley is undergoing emergency surgery for life-threatening injuries after a crash in Whitminster this morning.

He was airlifted to Southmead Hospital in Bristol after his multi-coloured KTM RC 8 motorcycle collided with a beige Skoda Fabia car.

The motorcycle was travelling southbound and the Skoda Fabia was emerging from a premises on the nearside of the road.

The Skoda driver – a 50 year-old woman from Tuffley, was taken to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital with wrist and pelvic injuries which are not considered life threatening.

Her male passenger, her husband, was shaken but un-injured.

There was a brief fire immediately after the collision, which was apparently caused by the motorcycle petrol tank igniting, however this was quickly tackled by members of the public with fire extinguishers.

Police were called at 8.46am to the crash on the A38, Whitminster, between the junctions for Green Lane and Hyde Lane.

The road at the scene remains closed whilst officers from the Tri-Force Specialist Operations Collaboration conduct a detailed investigation.

The investigation team are appealing for any witnesses who have not already been in contact, or any road users who may have ‘on-board’ camera footage relevant to the collision, or the moments leading up to it, to please get in touch by calling 101 and quoting incident number 118 of 29/08/2015.
