MEMBERS of Stonehouse Town Council are urging young people to keep Doverow Wood clear of litter.
Broken glass and cans have been left in the woodland several times over the last month, while trees have been damaged from fires.
The town council, which owns the wood, has also received reports that cars have been damaged in the area, while dogs have been cut from walking over the broken glass.
A spokesman from the council said: “The council have had to spend a great deal of time clearing broken glass and other materials from Doverow Wood during August.
“This has indicated that drinking and drug taking is taking place in the quarry area of the wood.
“Fires are also being lit and trees are being senselessly damaged.
“The activity is associated with large groups of young people congregating in the wood during the summer evenings.”
Community support officers have said they will increase patrols in the area.
