A HELICOPTER flight for two over the Cotswolds is one of the prizes up for grabs at a charity auction organised by the Rotary Club of Stroud.

More than 50 lots worth a total of more than £2,000 will go under the hammer next Friday, February 19, with proceeds going to the Longfield hospice in Minchinhampton, which supports people who have life-limiting illnesses.

Longfield, formerly the Cotswold Care Hospice, was chosen by Rotary president Eric Brownbill as the club’s charity of the year.

Other items up for auction include Sunday lunch for two at The Clothiers Arms in Stroud, a bottle of House of Commons champagne signed by Prime Minister David Cameron and a visit to Highgrove House with afternoon tea and champagne.

There is also pro-training at Minchinhampton Golf Club, bed and breakfast for two at The Imperial Hotel in Stroud and a signed copy of Jilly Cooper’s Jump.

The event being held at Longfield in Burleigh Lane, Minchinhampton, is being sponsored by Peter Hickman hair salon in Stroud and the Stroud News & Journal.

Tickets are £10, which include a ploughman’s supper and are available from the Imperial Hotel, in Stroud, the Peter Hickman salon in Gloucester Street, Stroud, and from the SNJ office in Lansdown, Stroud.

There will be a bar from 7pm and tours of the hospice will run from 6pm to 7pm every 15 minutes.

Auction starts at 7.30pm David Waite, vice president of the Rotary Club of Stroud, said the club was delighted with the response to its appeal for lots.

“It should be a great evening with an excellent auctioneer and a ploughman’s supper,” he said.

“We hope as many people as possible come along to help us raise money for this worthy local charity.”

Longfield chief executive Andrew Fletcher said: “The money raised by this auction and the kind support of the Rotary Club of Stroud will support people in our county and help those with life-limiting illnesses live well.

“I look forward to welcoming people to our wonderful building in Burleigh Lane for this great event.”
