NEW attractions and old traditions are set to grace this year's Randwick Wap.

Families and visitors will have the chance to see and feel crocodiles and alligators up close.

Staff from Crocodiles of the World, the UK's only zoo dedicated to crocodiles and alligators, will give educational and entertaining demonstrations.

Visitors will also be able to see and learn more about snakes, lizards and a tortoise at the popular festival.

Festivities will start at 12.45pm on Saturday (May 7) when the Wap personalities will gather at the war memorial where the Mayor and Queen of the May are cried in.

The new Mayor and Queen, for the first time mother and daughter, will then lead a parade with musicians and dancers through the village to the Mayor's pool.

At the pool the Mayor and Queen will be doused with spring water to confirm their appointments, followed by speeches and the Mayor's song.

Chairman of the Wap Michael Cratchley said: "The Randwick Wap is something very important to me, and I am sure to many others that live in the village and surrounding areas.

"The Wap itself promotes great English tradition and Fayre.

"This year promises to be as enjoyable as ever with a great mix of tradition and entertainment."

Amongst the attractions will be a fun dog show, fire service display, Randwick School country dancing, skylarks and morris dancing, with main arena events starting at 2.30pm.

An array of entertainments, stalls and competitions will also be on display at the traditional event which dates back to the Middle Ages.

A children's disco will be held in the village hall at 6pm, before live music and festivities continue at the Vine Tree Inn from 8.30pm.
