COMPELLED to ‘make a sacred space for women’ one day on waking up to a full moon in her tree house, Kesty Jakes founded a woodland sanctuary in Stroud.

In many parts of the world different cultures honour and recognise the significance of the menstrual cycle, menarche and menopause on women's health, spirituality and sexuality.

The Red Hearth House community hopes to replicate this by opening its doors in June each year as a dedicated space for women and girls who wish to visit.

“In the summer I like to sleep in our tree house, and early one morning at full moon, seven years ago, the land called me to create a sacred space for women in our community,” said Kesty, founder of The Red Hearth.

“Since then, each summer the Red Hearth House is open to all women and girls in all stages of their lives.”

Women are invited to visit the retreat to spend time with friends, family or in solitude and even have the option of staying overnight in a Yurt.

A rich programme of events and workshops are on offer exploring different aspects of ‘the feminine’.

For further information go to redhearthhouse.co.uk or call Kesty on 01453 766519.

Donations for visiting and attending workshops or ceremonies are welcome.

Listed in the Red Tent directory, the Red Hearth House is part of a global grass roots network of Red Tents popping up all over the world.
