PRIMARY school students from across Gloucestershire took part in two days of 'mini Paralympics' at Hartpury College.

On Thursday, June 16, the Gloucestershire SEN Primary Panathlon was won by Milestone School, of Gloucester, with 57 points.

In joint third on Friday were Severnbanks (Lydney) and Chalford Hill (Stroud), who both scored 55 – two more than Woodmancote (Cheltenham).

Cirencester Primary followed in sixth on 51, Gloucester Road (Gloucester) were seventh with 46, Widden (Gloucester) eighth on 34 and Tibberton (Forest of Dean) ninth on 33.

Lucy Stevens, teaching assistant at Chalford Hill school, said: “The children love this and really excel on the day."

During the last three years the Panathlon competitions have proved so popular that the county finals have been extended to two days.

Panathlon’s chief operating officer, Tony Waymouth, said: "These two days see the culmination of an expanded Gloucestershire programme this year.

"The programme has seen further take up across the county and is the flagship Primary Panathlon programme outside of London.

“The increasing demand for it has seen the county provide even more opportunity for first -time entrants to participate."
