THE UK heads to the polls today to answer one important question - should we remain in the European Union or leave it? Here's how to make sure you have your say.

  • Where are the EU referendum polling stations in Stroud?

There are dozens of polling stations spread around the district’s 27 wards.

They are usually based in easy-to-get-to locations, such as schools, community centres and other public buildings.

Stroud District Council have also created an interactive map on their website.

This can be viewed here.

Double click on the map to find your nearest station.

To use the map, simply enter your postcode or street and click on the map to select your property.

When you click on your property, it will provide you with the details of your nearest polling station.

Alternatively, you can use this website - wheredoivote.co.uk/

  • What time do the EU referendum polling stations open and close?

Polling stations opened at 7am this morning and close at 10pm tonight.

More than 46 million people are eligible to have their say in whether or not we leave the European Union today, which is understood to be a record number for a UK poll.

Some 100,000 are registered to vote in the Stroud District.

  • How do I vote?

When you arrive at the polling station, there will be people sitting at a desk with a copy of the electoral register.

If you have it with you, you can give them your polling card.

Otherwise you can just give them your name and address and they'll check it against the list.

The ballot paper for the EU referendum asks: "Should the United Kingdom remain a member of the European Union or leave the European Union?"

You should vote only once marking a cross against your preferred choice, which will be to either remain a member of the European Union, or, leave the European Union.

If you need more information, the Electoral Commission have produced an EU Referendum voting guide that explains how to take part in the EU Referendum.

You can download it here: www.aboutmyvote.co.uk/uk-voters

  • Can I vote without my polling card?

Yes. You don't need to take your polling card with you to vote - it might speed the process up a little, but you can vote without it.

Take a form of ID just in case.

  • What time will we find out the results of the EU referendum?

The campaign will soon be over, but we still have the results to come - so when can we expect to know whether Britain is staying in or leaving the European Union?

The SNJ will be reporting live from the count at Stratford Park Leisure Centre throughout the night to bring you the district’s decision every step of the way.

We’ll be keeping our live blog updated with news, interviews, comments, pictures and videos from 10.30pm till every vote is counted and the result in announced.

Organisers are hoping all votes can be counted and verified by around 3am.

However going on past experiences, the count can and regularly does go on longer than expected.

The Electoral Commission is expecting the full vote to be announced nationally by Friday morning.

See www.stroudnewsandjournal.co.uk to stay up to date on all the results.

  • What shall I do if I don’t know how to vote?

Well, you are cutting it mighty close!

A few days ago we asked four politicians in Stroud – two from either side of the debate – to make their final cases to sway undecided voters.

They are Labour’s Doina Cornell, UKIP’s Stuart Love, the Green’s Martin Whiteside and Conservative Debbie Young.

You can see their arguments here.
