A POLITICIAN from Brimscombe who has breast cancer is raising money for a charity which contributes funds for state-of-the-art mobile chemotherapy units.

Hope for Tomorrow has a single aim to bring cancer care closer to patient’s homes.

Working in partnership with the NHS, it's mobile chemotherapy units bring cancer treatment nearer to patients, reducing travel, waiting times and the stresses and strains of busy hospitals.

The charity has eleven units operational in counties across the south west including Gloucestershire.

Now Liz Peters, well-known in the community for her work as a Conservative councillor, is hosting an auction to donate towards the cause.

She is undergoing chemotherapy for breast cancer herself and wants to fundraise £5,000 for a mobile chemotherapy unit to cover Stroud, Tetbury, Cirencester and Cinderford.

Lots will be auctioned off by antiques expert Philip Taubenheim frequently seen on the BBC’s Antiques Roadshow and Bargain Hunt and Flog It.

A £55 Fortnum and Mason Hamper, a £27 gift voucher for nine pints at Stroud Brewery and a £410 two-day luxury stay in London are all on the auction catalogue.

The auction will take place at Skiveralls House in Chalford Hill on Saturday, October 1 at 5pm.

Tickets cost £15 which includes a buffet and an initial first drink.

RSVP to Liz by September 24 on 01453 887980 or info@theyewtreestroud.co.uk

Silent bids can also be emailed to the above address and there is an opportunity to make a secure donation at justgiving.com/fundraising/HFTauction for supporters who cannot make the event.

Hope for Tomorrow was founded by Christine Mills in December 2003, after she lost her husband David to cancer.

One of the many stresses the couple endured was travelling from their home to the Oncology Centre – a journey of nearly 60 miles.
