Stroud News and Journal:

FLY tipping in a Stroud town centre car park has continued despite the plea of local businesses.

Last week the SNJ reported that dozens of illegally dumped black bags had been piling in Fawkes Place off Bedford Street, attracting rats and foxes and maggots.

The mess meant that recycling crews from Stroud District Council hadn’t been collect the recycling of many of the High Streets shops, cafes and takeaways.

This left the car park area with overflowing bins, rubbish strewn across the courtyard and a stream of unhappy business owners demanding action.

After the complaint was made the rubbish was dealt with by the council, who worked with the traders to tidy the area and reorganise the bins.

But just days later, fly-tippers returned and had dumped more rubbish.

Frustrated staff at McColl's newsagents on the High Street said black bags had appeared at the private bin site again over the weekend.

Since then dozens more bags have been piled a few feet high on top of the existing bins.

A member of staff at the newsagents said: “The council came on Thursday to clear up the mess.

“This meant the recycling crews could finally get in and take away the rest.

“Over the weekend though we had more bags dumped. It’s incredibly inconsiderate.”
