THE man responsible for Stroud’s green spaces is getting on his bike to reduce the town’s impact on the environment.

Mike Dando, who is the manager of the Town Council’s Green Spaces team, will zip around Stroud on an electric bicycle.

The Town Council agreed to by a second-hand bike which Mike and other members of the team will make use of.

“A lot of my visits are to monitor and check sites around the town, so there isn’t a need to take a vehicle, and parking near sites is also an ongoing issue,” said Mike.

“We are always looking at ways to reduce our environmental footprint and the bike is one solution.

“We will use it for inspection visits, attending meetings and any other activity where we don’t need to use a vehicle.”

The Town Council’s team is responsible for a number of green spaces, including Bank Gardens and the old and new cemeteries off Bisley Road.

This autumn the team planted more than 4,300 spring bulbs around the town as well as 2,800 bedding plants which will bloom over the winter and spring.
