THE SKIES over Minchinhampton Common will be filled with colour for the sixth time with the returning annual kite festival.
Kite owners from across Gloucestershire and the Five Valleys will flock to the common to see flying mermaids, geckos and sharks on Sunday, April 2 from 10am till 5pm.
Families are encouraged to bring their own kite or have a go with those provided by Stroud Kite Flyers.
The event was originally held on Rodborough Common but it had to move due to its increasing popularity.
Alfie Jobbins, who has been organising the event since 2011 says it doesn’t take too much work.
He said: “It is the first UK calendar event for kite flyers to start the year, it attracts kite flyers from all across the country.
“We love Minchinhampton Common because it has very good wind conditions and lots of open space.
“We get air space permission so we can fly kites up to about 1,000 feet.
“Everyone is welcome to come along and help fill the skies (weather permitting) For more information follow the event page on Facebook at bit.ly/2kANPYY
