MEMBERS of the South Korean Green Party are due to visit Stroud in the next few days with the aim of touring some of the town’s finest environmental projects.

The political party was founded in 2011 after the securing the 1,000 members required across five cities and provinces and is officially named the Green Party + of Korea.

Stroud district greens will welcome the group of eleven women to the town from Monday, April 3 till Tuesday, April 4.

The delegation will visit Stroud after attending the Global Green Congress in Liverpool.

They decided on visiting Stroud after conducting some research into Green projects and found that the district had plenty to offer in terms of environmental projects and dedicated and hard-working people.

Stroud District Council’s Green Party leader Martin Whiteside said: “We are delighted and honoured to welcome our new friends from South Korea and am sure we will learn plenty from each other during this high profile visit.”

They have a busy schedule and will be visiting a number of projects to include Hawkwood College, Stroud Brewery, the Rural Suds projects around the Stroud Valleys and the Britwind factory in Woodchester.

The delegation will also visit Severn View Primary Academy to view their outdoor learning project, where they grow their own fresh vegetables in raised beds and in their new Bio-Dome and conduct fun activities for the children and community such as building bird hides, tree houses and welly racks.

Green Party Gloucestershire County Cllr Sarah Lunnon will lead a walk and talk around Springhill and showcase some of the Rural SuDS projects.

After this the touring party will also visit Stroud Brewery, lunch at Star Anise and call in at Stroud District Council and Stroud Town Council.

The Korean Green Party tries to ensure that 50 per cent of its committee members and representatives are women, they also guarantee a fair voice for the disabled, youth and minorities.

Their party is grass-roots led and supports decentralisation and both the direct democracy and lottery systems.
