Stroud News and Journal:

A MAIN road into Eastington is going to be closed during daytime hours for more than two weeks for a major resurfacing project.

Almost the entire length of pothole-ridden Spring Hill from the junction with Bath Road to just short of the roundabout at A419 will be resurfaced.

The road will be closed between 7am and 5.30pm from Monday April 10 till Wednesday April 26.

Work will start at the north end - near the A419 roundabout - and progress southwards toward Eastington Village.

The road will be reopened for the bank holidays and the weekends, except for Sunday 23 April when the Eastington roundabout outside the village shop will be resurfaced.

Access for residents and businesses will be maintained as long as it is safe.

Gloucestershire County Council said the road has reached the end of its life and now needs to be fixed. Its contractor Amey will carry out the work.

People may need to allow extra time for their journeys, although only three days of the scheme will coincide with school term time April 23 to 26.

The work has been rescheduled to coincide largely with the Easter holidays.

Diversions will be clearly signposted. No further details were given.

Eastington Parish Council have been pushing for a resurfacing work for many years.

A spokesperson said: “Eastington Parish Council is  pleased that Alkerton Road is finally to be re-surfaced, the deteriorating condition of the road has been of concern for several years.

“We hope that disruption will be kept to a minimum and rely upon Highways expertise in managing access for our residents.”
