LABOUR South West has dismissed a proposed idea from the Stroud Greens to form an electoral pact in the general election.

A Labour Party Spokesperson contacted the SNJ to say, “There already is a progressive alliance in the UK, it’s called the Labour party.

“There’s only one alternative government and that’s Labour.

"The only way to get the change we need, to build a fair economy and strong public services is to vote Labour.”

The Greens had suggested a pact between the Greens, Labour and the Lib Dems which would have seen others stand aside to try and get Sarah Lunnon, standing as the Green candidate against Neil Carmichael, to win in Stroud.

South West MEP Molly Scott Cato said last week that if in Gloucestershire rather than splitting the vote, Labour concentrated on Gloucester, the Liberal Democrats in Cheltenham and the Greens in Stroud, it would be possible to elect one Green, one Liberal Democrat and one Labour MP, rather than the current three Conservatives.
